Luxury watchmaker, Baume & Mercier, which entered the Indian market about four years ago, plans to expand its distribution network into smaller cities this year. They are drawing up a strategy to enter smaller cities as well. Mr Christophe Nicaise, Brand Manager, Baume & Mercier, said: "This would imply expanding our dealer base from the current 14 to 20".

According to market watchers, there is a market for luxury products (such as automobiles, watches or other accessories) in belts of certain States as Punjab. A lot of these areas also have a large number of non-resident Indians visiting their hometowns, resulting in brand recognition of foreign brands.

The Baume & Mercier company is investing in creating awareness through advertising primarily in the print media and in setting up exclusive corners in the outlets it is present in,too.

The company is planning to add more products to its best selling Hampton range. Baume & Mercier Replica Watches follow a trend towards large, big-dial watches for women and men.
